Outline of Research at the Start

本研究の目的は、従来に無い高感度な宇宙マイクロ波背景放射の観測を実現し、いまだ未解明なニュートリノ質量の絶対スケールに迫ることである。その為に1)世界最大規模の超伝導ミリ波検出器アレイ"POLARBEAR-2"を有する偏光観測装置群「Simons Array」実験において全望遠鏡を立ち上げ科学観測を開始し、2) 本研究計画独自のアイディアを盛り込んだ検出装置の較正を実行して系統誤差を抑え、3) 重力レンズBモードの精密測定を実現して、有限なニュートリノ質量和の探索を行う。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本研究では、従来に無い高感度な宇宙マイクロ波背景放射の観測を実現し、いまだ未解明なニュートリノ質量の絶対スケールに迫る事を目標としている。そのために、世界最大規模の超伝導ミリ波検出器アレイ"POLARBEAR-2"を有する偏光観測装置群「Simons Array」実験において３台の望遠鏡を立ち上げ科学観測を開始する事を目指している。本年度は、１台目の望遠鏡の運用を継続すると共に、２台目望遠鏡に関して前年度に発生した低温光学素子用の反射防止膜の剥離問題を解決し素子の再製作を行った上で、現地での導入およびコミッショニング観測を開始した。望遠鏡の運用に関しては、セミリアルタイムモニターを用いてリモートモニター・シフト体制を立ち上げ、現地チリ及び米国研究者と協力して安定運用を開始した。
装置の応答性を人工のミリ波源を用いて定期的にモニターするための装置"Stimulator"に関しても運用および解析を一手に引き受け、データ解析に向けたフレームワーク作りも完了した。さらにセンサーからのアナログデータをデジタルデータに変換する常温のエレクトロニクスの温度変化が無視できない事を特定し、温度管理を行うための超高感度な常温の温度モニターシステムを開発し論文に発表した。また、観測データの解析も着実に進展している。生データにフィルターや較正等の処理を施す解析フレームワークの開発を進めた。また較正手法の一つとしてプランク衛星データとの相互相関解析等の準備も行った。

Reason

研究実績で述べたとおり、２台目望遠鏡に関して技術的な困難を克服して、現地への導入及び立ち上げを果たすなど、着実にプロジェクトを前に進めているが、２台目について試験観測を開始した段階で、２台体制による安定した科学観測を開始する所まで実現しなかった事に基づき、やや遅れている、とした。ただし解析コードの準備をすすめ、データに基づいて微弱なバイアスをとらえる"ヌルテスト法"を実装した解析パイプラインを整えるなど、の研究を先取りして進めているため、全体としての遅延は発生していない。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

今後は、今年度にレシーバーの搭載を行った２台目望遠鏡の立ち上げを含め、２台体制での安定したデータ取得およびオフラインでのデータ処理を行う体制を整える。試験観測の結果を踏まえて、予想感度に基づき観測領域や機器較正も含めたプロジェクトの全体計画を策定し科学成果の創出を目指す。
