Outline of Research at the Start

金星および木星に焦点をあて、両惑星の雷放電を観測する惑星雷放電発光検出装置を新規開発し、北海道大学の光学望遠鏡（ピリカ）に搭載する。この望遠鏡で長期連続観測を実現し、(1)両惑星での雷活動の時間・空間変動、(2)金星探査機あかつきとの同時観測による雷放電発生点の雲対流構造、(3)木星大気雲解像モデルの数値計算と観測結果との比較による木星雷雲の鉛直・水平対流の結合過程、これらを特定することを目的とする。それにより、雷雲のライフサイクルと時定数、上昇気流と水平方向の対流との結合過程、大気大循環へ及ぼす影響などを明らかにし、下層から上層への物質と熱エネルギーの輸送・散逸過程の議論に踏み込む。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

太陽系の金星および木星に焦点をあて、両惑星の雷放電を観測する惑星雷放電発光検出装置（PLD）を新規開発し、北海道大学附属天文台光学望遠鏡（ピリカ）に搭載する。ピリカ望遠鏡を専有することで長期連続観測を実現し、(1)両惑星での雷活動の時間・空間変動を特定する、(2)金星における雷放電発生の可能性に決着をつけ、金星探査機あかつきとの同時観測から雷放電発生点の雲対流構造を特定する、(3)木星大気雲解像モデルの数値計算と観測結果との比較から、木星雷雲の鉛直・水平対流の結合過程を検証する、これらを目的とする。
前年度に引き続き2023年度もPLDの開発を進め、必要部品や計測装置の購入と機器の組み上げを行った。筐体の最終組み上げを行い、機能・性能試験とピリカ望遠鏡に搭載しての試験観測を実施する予定であったが、エレクトロニクス部の組み上げとデータ取得サンプリングソフトウェアの開発に時間を要し、進捗が大幅に遅れた。この原因としては、他プロジェクトでの研究や学務に多くの時間をとられ、本装置およびソフトウェア開発に対して十分な時間を確保しじっくりと腰を落ち着けて遂行することが出来なかったという、研究進捗管理の甘さにあった。
本装置を搭載するピリカ望遠鏡は北大の当グループが所有していることから、今後のPLDの試験や観測に対しては融通が利く。このため、科研費受領期間の研究という点では一区切りとなるが、引き続き最終的な本観測に向けて開発を継続的し、試験観測と本観測を早期に実現させて本研究の目的を達成する予定である。
