Outline of Research at the Start

本研究の目的は、無機キラル化合物の結晶構造のキラリティを制御出来る新規不斉育成手法を開発し、キラル磁性体の新規キラル物性の観測を行うことである。結晶構造のキラリティ制御が困難であることが、キラル磁性体研究における最大の障害となっている。そこで、無機キラル化合物の不斉単結晶及び不斉膜育成手法の確立、キラル磁気構造及びキラル物性の観測を行う。

Outline of Final Research Achievements

We obtained large enantiopure single crystals of inorganic chiral compounds TSi and TSi2 (T: transition metal) using floating zone method. The crystal chirality was controlled by use of composition-gradient feed rod. Small angnle neutron scattering muSR measurements revealed a new magnetic phase of TSi around Hc at the lowest temperature. We observed chirality-induced-spin-selectivity (CISS) effect in CrNb3S6 and TSi2.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

無機キラル化合物は、新しい原理による物性が理論的に提案されているが、結晶キラリティを単一にすることが大前提となる。しかし、殆どの無機キラル磁性体は、右結晶と左結晶が試料内に混在したラセミ双晶を形成する為、研究の対象とならなかった。本研究成果は不斉結晶育成手法と結晶キラリティ検出手法の確立を含む為、これまで研究の対象とならなかった物質にも光が当てられ、多彩なキラル物性観測のための基礎となることが期待される。
