Outline of Research at the Start

中性子星衝突(GW170817)直後の電磁波放射現象・キロノバ観測からランタノイド元素合成の証拠が捉えられた。爆発的元素合成・r-プロセスで生成されるランタノイドは、質量数165近傍に特徴的なピーク構造をもつが、その形成メカニズムは謎に包まれている。本研究は、①鍵を握る中性子過剰核の崩壊と質量測定、②深層学習法を導入した原子核理論計算、③最新のr-プロセス元素合成計算を連携させ、ランタノイド元素起源とされる「変形起因説」の検証を目指す。仮に変形起因説に否定的な結果が得られた際には、第2の仮説「アクチノイド非対称的核分裂」の間接的な証拠となり、金・白金を含めた総合的な重元素合成へと発展させる。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

原子核実験:r-過程に重要な役割を果たす中性子過剰核の半減期と遅発中性子放出の解析を順調に進めている。金や白金などの起源を探るために、中性子魔法数N=126を超える中性子過剰核の崩壊測定実験を行った。問題となっていた粒子識別能力を飛躍的に改善するために導入したシリコン半導体検出器を導入し、これまでGSI研究所の独壇場であったr-過程の第3ピーク領域の崩壊測定実験に成功した。中性子魔法数N=82領域の遅発中性子放出確率を測定した結果、原子核理論に問題があることを明らかにした。その原因を調査するために、遅発中性子が励起状態から放出される際に持ち出すエネルギーを測定するために予定していた飛行時間型中性子検出器(TOFU)を開発した。高分解能質量分析装置ZD-MRTOFを導入した質量測定を実施し、質量数A=90,110領域の非常に中性子過剰な原子核(83,84Ga, 82-86Ge, 82-89As, 84-91Se, 89-92Br, 91,92Kr,113Ag, 111-113Pd, 111-113Ru, 111,112Mo)の質量を測定することに成功した。
原子核理論:新たに測定した質量情報を既存の原子核理論と融合させるためにBayesian機械学習法を導入し、さらに中性子過剰な領域の不確定性を抑えることに成功した(D.S. Hou, PRC108, 054312)。
元素合成計算:新たに得られた実験データをr-過程計算に取り込み、連星中性子星合体における元素合成の計算を行った結果、第1ピーク近傍での不確定性を抑えることに成功した(W. Xian, PRC 109, 035804)。

2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.

Reason

①原子核実験:半減期、遅発中性子放出確率のデータ解析を順調に進めている。質量数A=90-125領域の100種もの中性子過剰核の遅発中性子放出確立、半減期の解析が終了した。さらに重い金や白金などの元素合成に関わる中性子魔法数N=126領域の中性子過剰核の崩壊データの解析も順調に進んでおり、核構造に関する論文がPRLに受理された。
②質量測定:質量測定実験のために使用する質量測定装置ZD-MRTOFの調整が順調に進んでいる。本研究計画で導入した高速フラッシュADCをZD-MRTOF装置に導入し、質量測定中の時間ドリフト現象を補正する高速データ収集システムを開発・導入した。MRTOFから引き出した不安定核の崩壊を測定し、質量測定で問題となるバックグラウンド(安定な原子核・分子)の識別を可能とするシステムを構築した。RIBF加速器の故障により実験ができていない状況にあったが、2024年度秋に本実験を行う予定である。質量測定と崩壊測定を両立させた高レート崩壊測定プロジェクトのテスト実験の準備も完了した。この崩壊測定装置は、ZD-MRTOF装置の直後に1.5mm角のピクセル化したプラスチックシンチレータを配置し、位置検出型光電子増倍管と組み合わせることにより高速β線検出器GARiを配置した。さらに、遅発中性子の分光研究を行うために高時間分解能飛行時間型中性子検出器TOFUを製作・導入した。質量とβγn核分光の同時測定を可能とするシステム構築は完了した。
③原子核理論:最新の質量データを原子核理論と機械学習の組み合わせたデモンストレーションを行い、112Mo領域の測定した質量データを原子核理論と機械学習法を組み合わせることにより、r-過程計算に必要とされる質量データの理論精度を向上させることに成功した。
④重元素合成計算:中性子星衝突で観測されたキロノヴァとの関連性を検討した。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

①崩壊測定: BRIKENプロジェクトにより得られた実験データを取り込んだ重元素合成の計算を行い、変形原子核が果たす役割に関して議論を行う。得られた研究成果を論文としてまとめ、国際会議で報告する。金属欠乏星のRh,Pd,Ag成分とランタノイド元素の成分に相関があることが発見された。この領域は、変形効果の影響が大きいことに加え、中性子過剰なアクチノイドの核分裂の成分も含まれている。実験データから、金属欠乏星のr過程成分に関する影響を調べる。中性子魔法数N=126領域の中性子過剰核の崩壊データの解析を行い、約10種の新半減期、約20種の新遅発中性子放出確率を決定する。
②質量測定: 2024年秋にZD-MRTOF&崩壊測定の本実験を実施する。質量測定装置ZD-MRTOF直後に高レート不安定核ビームに対応した崩壊測定装置(β線検出器GARi、飛行時間型中性子検出器TOFU、γ線検出器)を配置する。以上、ビームラインの粒子識別測定、質量測定、崩壊測定を一括収集することにより、効率的な測定方法を実現させ、本実験に望む。得られた質量データ、崩壊データの相互の系統性を調べることにより、原子核理論へのフィードバック、中性子過剰な原子核の核構造に関 する研究を行う。
③原子核理論:得られた質量データ、β崩壊データを取り込んだ包括的な原子核データベースの構築を始める。
④重元素合成計算:RIBF実験で得られた測定データと原子核理論班が構築しつつある原子核データベースを取り込むことにより包括的な重元素合成の計算を行う。 以上、崩壊測定、質量測定、原子核理論、r-過程計算の連携をとることにより、r過程で形成される第2ピーク成分(質量数A~130)、希土類元素成分、第3ピー ク成分(質量数A~195)の再現を行い、r-過程の起源の謎に迫る。
