Outline of Research at the Start

本研究は、これまで互いに独立に研究が発展し交差することのなかった原子層物質科学と量子光学の学術的知見を統合し、既存のデバイス原理の延長線上にない、光量子情報デバイスに繋がる新領域「バレースピン量子光学」を創出することである。さらに、そのバレースピン量子光学を応用へと橋渡しした「バレースピン量子フォトニクス」という新しい研究潮流を生み出すことを目指している。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本研究では、原子層物質科学と量子光学の知見を合わせ新たなバレースピン量子光学を創出することにある。我々は、バレースピン自由度を一つの量子状態として見做し制御する新たな道筋を独自に見出しており、これと原子層人工ヘテロ構造からなる究極のゼロ次元量子構造により、バレースピン量子光学の学理を構築し、それを応用へと繋げ新しい研究の潮流を生み出すことを目的としている。当該年度の研究実績は以下の通りである。
[1] 原子層人工ヘテロ量子ドットおよびデバイス作製技術:本研究で提案する量子光デバイスの実現に向け、そのプラットフォームとなる原子層半導体人工ヘテロ構造作製の更なる高度化を進めた。特に、極限的にクリーンな界面が期待される高真空ヘテロ構造作製技術が可能となり、従来より迅速にヘテロ構造作製が可能となった。これと併せて、ロボット技術を併用した結晶機械剥離に加え、真空ヘテロ構造作製システムをグローブボックス中に組み込んだ、複合システムの構築を進めている。
[2] 原子層ヘテロ量子ドットの励起子状態と量子光学現象の開拓:先端分光技術と微細加工技術を駆使し、これまで技術的に困難であった原子層二次元半導体モアレ構造における、単一のモアレ励起子からの発光観測に成功しコヒーレンス時間を実時間計測することができている。さらにそれを発展させ、フォノン散乱などによりデコヒーレンスが生じる物理メカニズムを明らかにした。さらに、複数のモアレ励起子間の量子干渉を観測することに成功した。
[3] バレースピン量子デバイスの実現:バレースピン量子光学に向けた基盤技術として、バレースピン量子制御を行うことが可能な、デバイス構造の構築を進めた。グラフェン電極による電界制御によって、原子層二次元半導体のバレーコヒーレンス制御の実験を進めた。

Reason

本研究計画において、その成否のカギを握る極限的なクリーンな界面を有する原子層人工ヘテロ構造の実現に向け、それが作製技術の高度化とロボット技術の融合により可能になりつつある。また、先端分光技術の高度化と並行して進めた、原子層人工ヘテロ構造の微細加工技術の進展により、モアレポテンシャルに閉じ込められた単一のモアレ励起子のコヒーレンス測定に成功し、デコヒーレンスの物理メカニズムの理解、複数のモアレ励起子による量子干渉に成功するなど、学術的に大幅な進展が得られている。
これらの研究成果と併せて、様々な形で学術的にも発展しうるなどの研究進展を考慮し、当初の計画以上に進展していると判断した。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

現在、作製技術の高度化とロボット技術を融合した、グローブボックス中での人工ヘテロ構造作製システムの構築の最終段階を迎えており、引き続きそれを完遂すること、更にそれを最大限利活用することで研究進捗を大幅に加速する。これと併せて、モアレ励起子のバレーコヒーレンスや量子状態制御など、本研究の最終的な目標である新たな量子光学の構築に向けた研究を展開する予定である。
