Outline of Research at the Start

既存の最高品質の高周波を遙かに凌駕する精度で制御可能となった光は、サブペタヘルツ(PHz : 1015 Hz)周波数で振動する電界としてエンジニアリングが可能な電磁波、すなわち”PHz波”と捉えることができます。本研究では、物質科学のフロンティアである特異なバンド構造、スピン物性、バンドトポロジーを有する層状量子物質群を対象として、独自に開発するアト秒(10-18 秒)時間分解分光プラットフォームによる計測と、第一原理計算・実時間量子シミュレーションの両面から、電子系と光波電界の相互作用を明らかにすることで、”PHzスケールの固体光物性”と呼ぶべき新しい分野を創出することを目指します。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

2023年度も概ね研究は順調に進展し、サブ10fs分解能の時間分解ARPESの実現(課題2)と、固体高次高調波トポロジカル光波発生による全角運動量保存則の実証(課題3)という2つ大きな進展があった。
【課題1】次世代単一アト秒分光プラットフォームの開発:2022年度に実現したYb固体レーザベース(パルス幅184 fs、平均出力80W)と2段階マルチプレート圧縮(MPC)法を組み合わせた1MHz繰返し・パルスエネルギー35μJの世界最短級パルス幅1.7サイクル(5.7 fs)光源を用いて、高次高調波発生を実現した。高次高調波のスペクトルのパルス幅依存性では、1.7サイクルパルス照射時に著しいスペクトル広帯域化が確認され、単一アト秒パルス発生が示唆された。
【課題2】光波電界-固体電子系相互作用のPHzスケールダイナミクス計測:ATTO-ARPESの実現に向け、ポンプ光を数サイクルパルスに圧縮したサブ10fs時間分解ARPESを開発した。本計測装置を用いて、WSe2結晶表面のポンプ・プローブ実験を実施し、K-Σバレー間で13fsという超高速バレー間散乱が起きていることを見出した。更に、高強度パルスでポンプしたところ、K点に励起したポピュレーションが飽和した様子が観測され、ポピュレーションのコヒーレント(Rabi)振動を示唆する結果を得た。
【課題3】光波電界駆動スピンダイナミクスによるPHzスケールスピントロニクスの開拓:昨年度より開始した固体高次高調波トポロジカル光波発生では、タイトに集光した中赤外光をGaSe結晶に導入することで、高次高調波発生のみならず光のスピン・軌道角運動量相互変換を同時に起こし、様々な軌道角運動量と周波数を含んだ光の発生に成功した。既存非線形光学の枠組みを超えた領域にあっても、動的対称性と呼ばれる時空間の対称性から導かれる選択則が成立していることを実証した。

Reason

2023年度は、課題(1)において、MHz繰返し高次高調波スペクトルのパルス幅依存性を計測することで、最短パルスにおける超広帯域スペクトルの発生を確認することで、単一アト秒パルス発生を示唆する結果を得た。また、本光源をベースに、アト秒吸収分光システムも構築し、最終年度のポンプ・プローブ実験へ向けた準備を整えると共に、MHz級繰返しATTO-ARPESの実現に向けて、0.2MHz・300μJ・8fs出力Ybファイバ増幅器の整備も着手した。MHz繰返し分光まで見据えたこのような光源整備は、世界に先駆けており、次世代単一アト秒分光プラットフォームの開発は順調に進んでいると評価できる。
課題(2)では、2022年度に計測に実現したTMDCにおけるボルコフ状態に加え、TMDCの大きな束縛エネルギーを特徴とする励起子のフロケ状態を強く示唆するバンド分散の計測と、その超高速緩和過程の計測に実現した。更に、サブ10fs時間分解ARPESの開発により、従来、理論的に提案されていた散乱時間よりも短い13fsのバレー間緩和の計測に成功した。ブロッホ電子系におけるフロケバンドの観測は、光と物質が融合した状態として代表的な現象であると共に、その時間スケールと同等なレベルでの散乱時間を有するバレー間散乱の観測など、最終年度に向けてPHzスケール光物性の特徴的な現象の計測を実現しつつあることは、極めて重要な進展であると言える。
課題(3)では、2022年度より、リアルスピンのPHz制御と並行して、固体高次高調波トポロジカル光波発生による光のスピン-軌道相互作用によるアト秒パルスの疑スピン制御の研究を開始した。本研究は、高次高調波過程における光のスピン・軌道並びにスピン-軌道相互作用が制御しうることと、その選択測が光の全角運動量を満たすものであることなどを実証した。以上を総合的に判断し、順調な進展と評価する。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

課題(1)では、2023年度に実現した1MHz繰返し・80W平均出力のYb系高出力フェムト秒レーザベースサブ2サイクル光源による超広帯域高次高調波発生(HHG)実験を進める。特に、2023年度に開始した、光源のキャリアエンベロープ位相(CEP)安定化を図り、高次高調波スペクトルのCEP依存性計測によるMHz繰返し単一アト秒パルスの発生と、平均フォトン数計測を実現する。また、2023年度に並行して構築を進めたMHz級アト秒吸収分光実験系を用いて、GaN薄膜サンプル等を用いたポンプ・プローブ実験に適用し、MHz級単一アト秒分光システムを実証する。
課題(2)では、昨年度までに実現したサブ10fs時間分解ARPES法を用いて、WSe2結晶の光励起ポピュレーションのコヒーレント振動の研究を更に進める。また、昨年度取り組むことができなかった遷移金属カルコゲナイド(TMDC)と共に、強いフロケバンドの観測が期待される単相グラフェンの計測も実施し、エネルギー-運動量空間における光波電界-固体電子系相互作用のPHzスケールダイナミクスの研究をまとめる。更に、本実験システムを0.2MHz繰り返しサブ10fsパルスYbファイバ増幅システムと組み合わせることによって、MHz級数fs時間分解ARPESを実現する。課題1と併せて、本研究課題の主目標である次世代単一アト秒分光プラットフォームを完成させる。
課題(3)では、アト秒時間分解磁気カー効果分光システムの開発を継続し、透過計測配置による時間分解アト秒偏光回転の計測を実証する。理論チームで進めている実時間第一原理計算によるトポロジカル絶縁体表面ディラックバンドにおける光波駆動スピン流のシミュレーション並びに、バレー・スピン偏極TMDCにおける光波電界駆動効果のシミュレーションの研究では、結果をまとめると共に、実験デザインの検討を計測チームと開始する。
