Outline of Research at the Start

本研究は,「ポストナノカーボン科学:ナノπ空間の精密構造科学」と題し,明確・一義な構造をもつ新しいナノカーボン分子を設計・合成し,その特性解明に基づく機能開拓を目指すものである.「大きく曲がったπ電子系の特性とはなにか?」を根源的な問いに据え,「新分子・新物質創造」によりその解を追い求める提案である.さらにそこで得られた解を,単に化学分野のみでの理解・価値とするのではなく,広く異分野を含めた視野で捉え,「機能性」という価値に読み替えようと考えている.

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本研究は「ポストナノカーボン科学:ナノπ空間の精密構造科学」と題し,明確・一義な構造を持つ新しいナノカーボン分子を設計・合成し,その特性解明に基づく機能開拓を目指す.「大きく曲がったπ電子系の特性とはなにか?」という根源的な問いに対し,「新分子・新物質創造」によりその解を追い求めることを目的とする.「1. 多様構造の創造」,「2. 基本特性の解明」,「3. 機能性への展開」の3項目を検討項目とし,その三つ巴の研究展開により,「分子性ナノカーボンの科学」を発展させる.
本研究期間では以下の成果を挙げた.「1. 多様構造の創造」では,独自の「1,3,5-三置換ベンゼン(フェナイン)を構成要素としたナノカーボン分子設計法」を展開し,新奇ボウル状ナノカーボン分子の設計・合成を行なった.また,ナノカーボンのπ電子系に金属が埋めこまれた分子についても配位子交換や金属交換を行い,系統的評価を行なった.「2. 基本特性の解明」については,新奇ボウル状分子のナノπ空間がフラーレン包接に適していることを明らかにした.このような巨大なナノ空間においては,ホストとゲストが何対何で会合体を形成するのか,という「会合比決定問題」が常につきまとうが,ベイズ推論によるアプローチ,van 't Hoffプロットによる検証法が会合比決定において有用であることを示した.「3. 機能性への展開」においては,固体内慣性回転を示す直径縮小型キラル有限長カーボンナノチューブ分子による超分子会合体と材料応用の検討を行った.有限長カーボンナノチューブ分子のナノπ空間に広範なゲストの包接が可能であること,また結晶化によってバンドルが集積したような構造をとることを明らかにした.特に,極性官能基を有するゲストを内包した会合体については,誘電特性の評価と解析を実施しており,固体材料としての機能を開拓しつつある.

Reason

主題となる研究項目,「1. 多様構造の創造」,「2. 基本特性の解明」において,ナノカーボン分子を如何に設計・合成するのか,またナノカーボン特有の会合現象にどのようにアプローチするのか,方策を確立しつつある.「3. 機能性への展開」においては,「固体内慣性回転」を示す直径縮小型キラル有限長カーボンナノチューブ分子の固体材料応用への基盤を築くことができている.以上のことから,研究が「おおむね順調に進展している」と判断する.

Strategy for Future Research Activity

研究全般について大きな変更はせず,引き続き研究を遂行する.本研究課題での主要な項目のうち「1. 多様構造の創造」,「2. 基本特性の解明」については,独自のフェナインによるナノカーボン分子設計法を活用することで,湾曲した巨大ナノカーボン分子群を創製し,さらに構造と物性の相関を明らかにしていく.「3. 機能性への展開」の項目については,引き続き「固体内テラヘルツ回転を実現する超分子会合体」に注力し,極性回転子が与える誘電応答特性・磁化率応答特性,電気伝導率変化などを評価することで,固体物性の機能開拓を進めていく.
