Outline of Research at the Start

カーボンナノチューブ(CNT)とシリコンフォトニクスの融合による小型室温動作単一光子発生デバイスの開発を研究目的とする.
第一段階として,CNTから放出された光をフォトニック結晶(PhC)共振器に結合・増強し,単一光子を効率よく共振器内に取り込む手法を開発する.第二段階として,共振器から導波路への高効率結合するデバイス構造のデザインとその作製を行う.共振器の側に線欠陥導波路を導入することで共振器から光を取り出し,導波路端にて,レンズ構造を持った光ファイバーを用いて単一光子を取り出す.第三段階として,励起光も導波路を用いて共振器と結合させることでCNTを励起する手法の確立に取り組む.

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

この研究における問題の核心、困難さは、単一光子の性能を下げず、いかに歩留り良く光共振器-導波路構造上に集積するか、である。前年度まで課題を克服するためにデバイス側からアプローチしていたが、今年度は主にCNT単一光子源側からのアプローチを試みた。具体的には分子修飾CNTの利用である。分子修飾CNTとはCNTに特定の分子を修飾したもので、近年の合成化学分野で大きな成果を挙げている。また、この分子が局所的に修飾されたCNTで単一光子発生の報告も相次いでなされている。我々は、特定の限られた発光波長を持ち、基板に接触しても発光減少が少なく、単一光子性が高く、明るい分子修飾CNTを用い、基板に多数配列された共振器構造に分散塗布する手法を用いることで、課題の克服を試みた。

この手法を実施するにあたり、分子修飾CNTの合成を専門に研究を行っている九州大学とドイツ、ハイデルベルク大学のグループとそれぞれ共同研究を開始した。まず、分子修飾CNTそのものの発光特性の評価を行い、深い欠陥準位を持つ分子修飾CNTほど明るく、優れた単一光子性が得られうることを確認した。次に、CNTをシリコン基板上に分散させたサンプルに対して、単一光子発生に必要な、孤立した単一の分子が修飾されているCNTを、自動顕微分光測定システムを用いて探索した。そのようにして見つけたCNTに対して単一光子性の評価実験を行い、励起子-励起子消滅を用いた単一光子発生よりも純度が高く、明るい単一光子生成ができることを確認した。次段階として、基板上に共振器構造を作製したデバイスに同様にCNTを塗布し、共振器による発光増強効果を顕微時間分解測定を用いて確認した。今後、デバイス探索を継続し、本手法を用いた共振器に結合した単一光子性の高いデバイス実証を行う。
