Outline of Research at the Start

本研究はその高い融点から単結晶育成が困難である酸化ハフニウム系材料の単結晶育成とシンチレータへの応用を目的とする。初めにHf6Ta2O17の単結晶育成を行い、育成条件を確立した後に発光中心元素としてCe、Pr、Eu、Tiなどを添加し、X・γ線検出を高効率で行える単結晶シンチレータの開発を目指す。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本研究では酸化ハフニウム系材料の1つであるCaHfO3の一部をMgで置換した単結晶を育成し、そのシンチレーション特性評価を行った。Ce添加CaHfO3の発光量は8000 photons/MeV程度と比較的高く、減衰時定数も20-30 ns程度と速いため、X・γ線検出用シンチレータとして有力な候補である。これまでに他の材料系において母材の一部を他元素で置換することで発光量が向上することが報告されている。そのためCe添加CaHfO3においても母材の一部を置換することで、発光量が向上する可能性がある。
Ce濃度は3%で固定し、Mg濃度は0.5-10%の間で変化させて単結晶を育成した。育成した結晶は全て無色透明であった。粉末X線回折 (XRD) の測定結果では単相のCaHfO3が得られたことを確認し、またMg濃度の増加に伴ってピークが高角度側にシフトしたため、CaサイトにMgが置換されていることを確認した。フォトルミネッセンスおよびシンチレーションスペクトルの両方で430 nmを中心にブロードな発光バンドが観測され、その減衰時定数は22 ns程度であったため、発光起源はCe3+の5d-4f遷移であると考えられる。この発光バンドの量子収率はMg置換によって向上し、Mg置換前は28%程度であったが、Mg置換後は最大で50%程度であった。シンチレーション発光量を定量的に算出した結果では、5%Mg添加サンプルがおよそ9500 photons/MeV程度の発光量を示した。これは酸化ハフニウム系材料の中で最も高い発光量であり、既存のX・γ線検出用シンチレータであるBi4Ge3O12やCe添加Gd2SiO5の発光量よりも高い値が得られた。
