ナチスドイツ公認の体制派美術の特色が、南ドイツのアカデミックな画壇から生じたものであり、それによって権威づけられた、という仮説をたて、美術作品の地理的帰属に注目するという独自な方法による検討を行って、仮説を証明することがこの研究の目的である。
この検討によって、1930年代、1940年代のドイツ美術の歴史を事実確認する立場から再構築するとともに、ナチスによる美術政策の手法と、それに取り込まれて体制派となった画家たちの存在を明らかにする。

| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
The purpose of this study was to clarify the reality of Nazi German art, which is still difficult to place in the history of art, through the works and the painters. However, due to the Corona disaster, we had to change our research method, including the painters, which was based on a survey of local materials. We examined the data using the electronic data available in Japan and combined it with the materials obtained during the field survey in the last year of the project. As expected, the results of the study clearly indicated the importance of the Southern German painting circles in the Nazi German art, and similar results were obtained in the study focusing on the Autobahn, which was not planned. In the final year of the project, we interviewed local researchers directly about the reappraisal of Nazi German art and clarified the changes in its positioning. Some of the remaining discussions will be summarized and made public at conferences and other venues during this fiscal year.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
今回の研究成果として、従来の研究がドイツの体制派美術と政治との結びつきや帰属の問題が中心だったのに対して、一歩踏み込んで、ナチスの幹部等の故郷である南ドイツ画壇の保守的な美術が根幹となって制作された美術が体制派美術の主流を形づくった事情を明示し、ナチス下の美術統制手法の一端が把握できた。美術史では負の評価を前提としても、美術の実情を細やかに把握する必要があり、今回の研究成果が日独共にそれに貢献する結果となった。またドイツ、オーストリアの政治と美術の関係について歴史的位置付けを試みている研究者から話を聞き、負の評価に陥った美術動向を公に議論し、展示する方法について、今後の指針を得ることができた。
