Outline of Research at the Start |
I will be using the data on minority language translation to advance translation theory and will use language learning theory to make the position of children’s literature in language learning more understandable for learning communities. The research combines theory and investigation of publishing.
|
Outline of Final Research Achievements |
I have worked on applying translation theory to the problem of understanding the translation of children's literature into minority languages. Minority language speakers are sometimes reluctant to translate from dominant languages into their own language. However, translation is one of the most effective ways to quickly build a body of children's literature. My study has been to try to clarify the options available and to relate these options to theory. In this research I have published one major research paper in an international journal, I have another currently in review, I have written a chapter for an edited book on translation theory, I am currently working on two chapters for inclusion in another book, I have presented on minority language translation at an international children's literature conference in Chile. I have also run an online survey to investigate bilinguals thoughts on reading the same book in more than one language.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
My research is designed to encourage the creation of children's literature in minority languages. Many minority languages have very little children's literature. This can contribute to the decline of those languages. My research aims to deal with this problem.
