本研究は人工知能やロボット工学の進歩によって「生きている人形」が日常的に見られるようになった現代社会で、これらの人形が文化的想像力にど のように影響し、現代の「人間観」「ジェンダー観」「セクシュアリティ観」「身体観」「生殖観」をどのように変化させているか検討するものである。中でも、日本にインスピレーションを受けた現代作家の「人形」や「ロボット」を扱った作品、日本を舞台とする作品に注目し、日本の人形とジェンダーやセクシュアリティの密接な結びつきについて考察する。日本の人形芸術の伝統、ロボット工学や人工知能での先端性などが世界におけるポストヒューマン表象に与えている影響について考察する。

2023年度はこれまでの本研究課題の成果が次々と出版された。
５月には論文 "Through the Looking Glass of Madame Butterfly: Narrative Gender Transition in the Writings of Angela Carter"がOUPのContemporary Women's Writingの特別号に掲載された。この特集号は英国の研究者と共にゲスト編集をしたものでもある。８月には論文 “Beyond the Failure of Communication with Others: Angela Carter from a Global Perspective”が Gramarye: The Journal of the Chichester Centre for Fairy Tales, Fantasy and Speculative Fictionの Summer 2023(23)号に掲載された。また12月には、拙論「未来に託す身体のメッセージ」が収録された共著『マーガレット・アトウッド『侍女の物語』を読むーフェミニスト・ディストピアを越えて』 が水声社から出版された。また、１月には本務校内での研究協力者を得て、本研究課題から発展させた編著書『リベラルアーツで学ぶポストヒューマン』を東信堂から出版できた。また2024年の夏頃にBloomsburyから出版予定のSarah Gamble他編集のAngela Carter: Looking Back/Going Forwardに論文を提出し収録が決まった他、まだ出版時期は未定であるが、Martine Hennard Dutheil編集のThe World is Made of Words’にも論文を寄稿した。期間の後半に入り、着実に成果が出ている。

Reason
３本の論文と一冊の編著書、一冊の学術誌特別編集号が発行され、研究の進捗は順調である。また本研究に刺激をうけた本務校内の他分野教員と、ポストヒューマンを巡る勉強会を持つことになり、それが編著書にもつながったことは、研究開始当初は予測していなかった研究成果を生んだ。

2024年度は最終年度にあたるので、夏には文献調査を行い、引き続きもう一本の編著書の完成を目指して研究を進める。
