Outline of Research at the Start

本研究では,第一言語(L1)と第二言語(L2)の語形が類似した3種類の語彙(同根語・言語間同音異義語・和製英語)とL1とL2に語形の類似性がない語彙(非同根語)を学習者がどのように理解し,産出するのかについて事象関連電位を用いて調査することで,L2の語彙知識の発達メカニズムを明らかにし,効果的な語彙指導法を考案する。語彙習得において,外来語,とりわけ和製英語は弊害と見なされる。しかし,L2での語彙産出の難しさは新たに学習した語形の記憶の不完全さに一因があることを考慮する時,外来語や和製英語のL1としての語形をL2の語形の習得に役立てることができれば,L2での語彙産出が容易になるであろう。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

2023年度は日本語を母語とする英語学習を対象に実施した語彙学習の実験のデータの再分析を行った。この実験では,既に知っている英語の単語に新しい意味を組み合わせて学習する場合と新奇語に同じ意味を組み合わせて学習する場合,どちらの方が難しいかを検証した。その結果,既に知っている英語の単語に新しい意味を組み合わせる場合の方が覚えやすいことが示された。第二言語の語彙学習において,学習者は新しい言語形式(form)に意味(meaning)を結びつけることになるが,新しい言語形式を覚えることが認知的負荷に繋がっていること明らかになった。これは,2024年度に実施予定の欺瞞的同根語(false cognates)を用いた実験に興味深い示唆を与える結果となった。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

2024年度は日本語を母語とする英語学習者を対象として,翻訳認識と翻訳産出の実験を実施する。その際,英語を母語とするスペイン語学習者の実験結果を踏まえ,実験のメインタスクである翻訳認識と翻訳産出に加えて,認知コントロールタスクも含める予定である。
