Outline of Research at the Start |
“What does it mean to be human?” “What is the meaning and purpose of suffering?” “Are some creatures more entitled to life than others?” Today these existential questions are discussed not at philosophy departments but in labs and hospitals by doctors and natural scientists. It is crucial for science and medical students to learn early on how to address bioethical dilemmas prompted by emerging biotechnologies. The proposed OCW will help achieve these goals by providing pilot courses in bioethics for undergraduate students.
|
Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
PI Govorounova has continued developing an OCW on bioethics with the help of the international team of experts in bioethics and professional web developers. She created original experimental courses for her undergraduate science and medical students on “The History and Philosophy of Science: Past and Future Paradigm Shifts,” “Will AI Kill Human Creativity?” and “Human Rights as Social Construction.” Her students designed and recorded original video and audio materials, mini-films and presentations.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.
Reason
The present research project is progressing rather smoothly. The sudden emergence of ChatGPT and other new AI tools in early 2023 has had a profound impact on current research efforts, sharpening their focus and amplifying discussions regarding the significance of humanity.
|
Strategy for Future Research Activity |
We will continue customizing and optimizing the system on the basis of ongoing evaluations provided by student feedback. By collaborating with interested academic partners we will recast the system as an AI-enabled educational platform. In 2024, we intend to refine and conclude the development of the system.
