Outline of Research at the Start

Outline of Final Research Achievements

This study aims to analyze the legal theory underlying the protection of historic buildings in the UK as a prerequisite for examining the appropriate approach to establishing the system in Japan.
In the UK, the protection of historic buildings is actively implemented not only in “historic towns” but also in “ordinary towns,” and the “Heritage at Risk Registers" (which is annually revealed by Historic England) plays a significant role in enhancing the effectiveness of the protection.
Additionally, recent legislation such as the “Levelling-up and Regeneration Act 2023” and the “Historic Environment (Wales) Act 2023” has promoted the protection of historic buildings while also signaling a shift toward more modern protection policies by the government.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements
