Outline of Research at the Start

This project examines the long-term strategic factors that accounted for the rise of Chinese absolutist imperial system characterized by a highly centralized administrative bureaucracy. This project systematically quantifies the number of political regimes, incidences of warfare and climate data for two millennia and builds an econometric analysis on the impact of environment and geography on political institutions. Although heavily borrowing from Chinese institutions and ideologies, Japan remained far more decentralized to make a fascinating comparative study for our project.
