Outline of Research at the Start

地球上に存在する元素の起源は、科学における最も重要な問題の一つである。ウランなどの重元素は、中性子を非常に速く吸収した後にベータ崩壊する、rプロセスと呼ばれる過程で生成されたと考えられているが、その天文学的起源は未だ完全にはわかっていない。本研究では、rプロセスを記述するために必要な、中性子過剰な原子核に対する中性子捕獲断面積を大規模数値計算によって精度良く与える。これらの多くは実験で直接的に求めることがほぼ不可能であり、理論計算が強く求められている。こうして、rプロセスの記述に寄与することを目指す。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

元素合成に直接関わる核構造研究として、光核反応断面積の計算を大規模殻模型計算を用いて行った。炭素13については、軽い核でよく使われているWBT相互作用を用い、(1+3)hw空間まで模型空間を広げることによって実験の光核反応断面積をよく再現した。また、ニッケル58について、10~MeV以下のE1、M1励起分布を1hw空間の大規模殻模型計算で求め、こちらも実験値をよく再現することに成功した。これらの成果はいずれもPhysical Review C誌に出版された。また、オスロ大学の大学院生とともに、バナジウム同位体の核準位密度とガンマ線強度関数の計算に取り組んでいる。実験値はよく再現したため、今後、その物理的解釈に進んでいく予定である。
元素合成過程において中重核の構造の理解は欠かせない。それを視野に入れ、カドミウム同位体および水銀同位体の核構造の系統的な計算を行った。カドミウム同位体については、これまで11/2-状態の電気的四重極モーメントの中性子数依存性が生じる原因として、対相関がよい極限であるセニョリティ描像によって理解されてきたが、大規模殻模型計算の結果、セニョリティ量子数は現実的にはよい量子数とはいえず、プロレート変形しているという視点からよく理解されるという新しい見方を打ち出した。水銀同位体については、集団的な状態とスピンがアラインしている状態との競合によって、実験で観測されている核異性体が出現することを示した。前者についてはPhysical Review C誌に出版され、後者は投稿中である。
その他にも、不安定核やガンマ線分光の実験と共著で複数の論文を出版した。

Reason

大規模殻模型計算による研究成果が順調に出版されている。本研究課題では、光核反応断面積で調べられる比較的励起エネルギーが高い領域にも着目しているが、その記述にも成功していることから、おおむね順調に進展していると判断する。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

今年度の研究をより発展させ、光核反応断面積、核準位密度、ガンマ線強度関数のより系統的な計算を行う。光核反応断面積については、カルシウムよりも軽い、sd殻領域の原子核をカバーする殻模型相互作用を作成し、それを使った大規模殻模型計算を行う。核準位密度やガンマ線強度関数についても、オスロ大学との共同研究のもと、計算値をオスロ法を用いた実験データと比較し、そこから元素合成過程に資するデータベース構築の第一歩を踏み出す。
