Outline of Research at the Start

北極海はCO2吸収域として知られているが、長く氷に閉ざされた北極海での観測は非常に困難で、地球温暖化に伴う環境変化に対して、北極海のCO2吸収量がどのように変化するのかは、よくわかっていない。本研究では、最新の観測データに基づく推定の更新と、数値モデル実験結果との比較を通して、CO2吸収量がいつどこでどのくらい変化しているのかを明らかにする。本研究の結果は、地球全体の炭素収支の定量化、ひいては地球温暖化の将来予測の不確実性低減につながると期待される。

Outline of Final Research Achievements

This study assessed the Arctic CO2 uptake based on state-of-the-art observation-based estimates and biogeochemical model outputs. The results were published as an international collaborated research paper, which was one chapter of Regional Carbon Cycle Assessment and Processes (RECCAP) phase2.
