Outline of Research at the Start |
To obtain geologically meaningful information from the Earth’s material, it is necessary to identify and analyze geochemically undisturbed domains. Zircon is a widely used mineral for U-Pb age of the magmatic or metamorphic events. Sometimes, the results are affected by secondary processes. We plan to investigate zircon internal structures via EBSD for undeformed domains to obtain geologically meaningful results.
|
Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
Although, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, research work, particularly field survey and sample collection for the proposed research project in the overseas countries was delayed so far. However, significant progress on samples collected in the past geological fields have been achieved. Detailed petrography, mineral chemistry, and
EBSD analysis on high and ultrahigh-temperature metamorphic rocks have been conducted on some samples. Some of the research results are already published in year 2022, and/or under submission to be published within 2023. Additional petrological, geochemical, and geophysical work on other samples is in progress currently.
Some of the research results have been presented at the 14th International eclogite conference that was held in Lyon, France, in July, 2022.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.
Reason
Some of the planned objectives of the research have been achieved and others are underway. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and restrictions on traveling and field surveys in overseas countries, the work on this project is facing somewhat delay from the original schedule. However, significant progress has been done on laboratory analysis and part of the research results have been submitted for a peer reviewed international scientific journal and will be published possibly within 2023 in an open access peer reviewed international journal.
|
Strategy for Future Research Activity |
As most of the restrictions on travel are easing due to the progress in the COVID vaccination, PI is planing to conduct field survey and sampling for the target high- ad ultrahigh-temperature metamorphic rocks in the year 2023. The collected rock samples will be processed and investigated accordingly to achieve the goal of the proposed research. Moreover, obtained research data and their interpretation are under progress and will be published in scientific journal in the fiscal year.
