Outline of Research at the Start

環境と食料生産とを両立させるには、肥料の供給を抑制することが求められている。しかし、肥料の散布(投入)方法の高度化に関する研究はほとんど行われておらず、投入量の最適化ならびにその散布効率向上に関する研究は遅れている。
本応募研究では、肥料の微粒化(ナノ粒子化)を行い、その微粒子のキャリアとしてナノメーターとマイクロメーター・スケールの帯電液滴群を用いることで、肥料が植物に選択的に沈着される散布システムの開発を行う。
高い選択性と沈着力を持つ散布システムの開発と育成実験に基づく評価により、植物の成長を促進しつつ、吸収されない肥料成分を最小化する食料生産体系の構築を目指す。

Outline of Final Research Achievements

This project developed a selective deposition system for inorganic compounds using droplets as carriers for "fertilizer" fine particles. This method enables efficient deposition of microparticles onto plants while reducing environmental impacts of excess fertilizers. We synthesized fine particles, investigated deposition/removal techniques, developed visualization methods, and successfully demonstrated the system in a plant growth chamber. Subsidiary achievements include developing a photothermal conversion membrane and a system for observing water dynamics in biomass.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

本研究で開発された選択的沈着による化合物散布システムは、植物生産における肥料利用の最適化に大きく貢献する。従来の一様散布に比べ、必要な部位にのみ肥料を届けることで、過剰投入による環境負荷を抑制できる。作物生産性の向上と環境保全の両立に貢献できる学術的に重要な成果である。
また、副次的な成果である光熱材料や分析手法の開発も、広く科学技術に波及効果をもたらす。膜状の光熱材料は熱の局在化に優れ、海水淡水化など様々な用途が期待される。バイマス中水動態の可視化の手法は、他分野の研究にも活用できる。本研究は、植物生産のみならず関連する幅広い分野の発展に寄与する社会的意義の高い研究であった。
