Outline of Research at the Start

細胞膜にはナノドメインと呼ばれる、特殊で微小な領域が点在している。これまでにナノドメインが植物免疫に関与することが示唆されてきたが、具体的な機能は未解明であった。我々はナノドメインが減少したシロイヌナズナ変異体を用いることにより、植物免疫の主要な経路を担うタンパク質の複数がナノドメイン上に存在することを見出した。本研究では、同定したタンパク質とナノドメインの関係や、それらタンパク質を介した経路におけるナノドメインの機能を明らかにすることにより、ナノドメインが制御する植物免疫機構を解明する。

Outline of Final Research Achievements

In the plasma membrane, there are specialized nano-scale domains called nanodomains, in which lmainly sphingolipids and sterols accumulate. By modifying sphingolipids, the principal investigator has created an Arabidopsis mutant with fewer nanodomains. Analysis of the mutant revealed that nanodomains positively regulate the production of reactive oxygen species during disease response in Arabidopsis thaliana. We also established a simple visualization method for plant nanodomains.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

ナノドメインは細胞膜に点在する特殊な領域であり、様々なタンパク質の相互作用や活性化の足場となる。本研究により、植物のナノドメインが耐病性タンパク質を制御することにより、免疫に関与することを明らかにした。この結果は、複雑に制御される植物免疫の解明に、細胞膜の視点から貢献するとともに、将来的に耐病性を強化した作物の作出に繋がると期待できる。
