Outline of Research at the Start

糖尿病は生活習慣病のうち最大のものであり、わが国における患者とその予備軍は1,000万人を超えている。その病態の核心を担う膵β細胞からのインスリン分泌不全の機序にはまだ不明な点が多く、根本的な治療法はまだ開発されていない。本研究では、耐糖能異常を呈するキネシン分子モーターの遺伝子ノックアウトマウスを用いて、膵β細胞からのインスリン分泌制御過程におけるキネシン分子モーターの役割を解析する。特に小胞体関連分解との関連を追究し、糖尿病を始めとする幅広い難治疾患の新規治療戦略創出に道を拓く。
