Outline of Research at the Start

Outline of Final Research Achievements

The study was to explore the relationship between the personality traits of cancer survivors and the effects of complementary therapy. The subjects were four cases that completed a four-month longitudinal study.
Cancer survivors with neurotic tendencies benefited from selecting complementary therapies suited to them and practicing habitually. This contributed to anxiety reduction and the maintenance or improvement of quality of life (QOL). Patient who showed improvement in medical condition experienced positive effects in all areas such as mood/emotions, state/trait anxiety, and physical/mental QOL. Even patients whose conditions worsened maintained stability in trait anxiety and mental QOL. Meanwhile, patient with extroverted and open personality, who had life philosophy and hobby, maintained stability in trait anxiety and mental QOL when mood and condition were poor. These findings suggest that supporting complementary therapies tailored to personality traits can be beneficial.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements
