Outline of Research at the Start

Outline of Final Research Achievements

The purpose of this study was to devise the exercise program as a countermeasure for acute mental stress-indued arterial stiffening. As results, we revealed that 1) acute mental stress elicits an increase in arterial stiffness in various segments, 2) acute mental stress-caused arterial stiffening can be counteracted by brief aerobic exercise, 3) a 10-min bench step exercise after acute mental stress counteracts stress-induced arterial stiffening, but confers only limited protection against the effects of subsequent acute mental stress, 4) a bench step exercise for only 3 minutes is sufficiently effective in offsetting acute mental stress-induced arterial stiffening.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements
