Outline of Research at the Start

Outline of Final Research Achievements

In this study, we quantitatively evaluated the freshwater budget in the entire Sea of Okhotsk region. It has been said that the Amur River discharge is the primary source of freshwater supply to the Okhotsk. However, the results of our study revealed that not only the Amur River but also rivers on the Kamchatka Peninsula and the northern coast, as well as freshwater supplied through precipitation from the atmosphere, contribute to the freshwater budget of the Sea of Okhotsk. Precipitation over the sea is the largest source of freshwater, accounting for approximately half of the total. The Amur River contributes around 30%, and the Kamchatka Peninsula and northern coastal rivers account for about 20%.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements
