Outline of Research at the Start

Outline of Final Research Achievements
This study aims to elucidate the mechanisms sustaining peatland ecosystems and their biogeochemical cycles in tropical peat swamp forests and heath forests in Indonesia. Specifically, transition zones between these forest types were examined, and the relationship between tree community structure and edaphic conditions was analyzed. The findings indicated distinct species composition differences between the forests, with key environmental determinants identified. Furthermore, we developed a comprehensive database of ecological and forestry research on peatlands and conducted a systematic review to determine tree species suitable for reforestation in disturbed peatlands. To advance peatland conservation and restoration efforts, systematic initiatives were undertaken to integrate Indonesia’s national census data and Village Potential Statistics (PODES) into the analytical framework.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements
