Outline of Research at the Start

本研究の目的は、江戸時代中期の紀州（現在の和歌山県）で活躍した文人画家・桑山玉洲（1746～99）に関わる絵画や文献の分析を通じて、江戸時代における「真景図」の意義を明らかにすることである。
日本絵画史において、「真景図」とは江戸時代の文人画家と呼ばれる人々が描いた実景表現を重視した図を指すことが多いが、明確な定義はないままとなっている。江戸時代の人々は何を「真」の景であると考えていたのか。江戸時代において「真景」を描く重要性を述べる画論を著した桑山玉洲と周辺の人物や豊富な資料に注目し、課題解決を目指す。
