Outline of Research at the Start

宇宙の始まりを説明する理論としてインフレーション仮説が期待されている。宇宙マイクロ波背景放射(CMB)は138億年前の古い宇宙から飛んでくる光であり、その偏光方向の情報を用いることでインフレーション仮説を検証できる。しかし、CMBよりも新しい時代に存在する天体などが発する前景放射という光が、角度較正を通して偽の信号を生み出してしまう。本研究の目的は、前景放射による偽の信号の影響を軽減し、インフレーションの発見感度を高めることである。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

令和4年度は、前景放射とCMBの光の分離に取り組んだ。前景放射を取り除いたCMBデータを作成できれば、前景放射に邪魔をされない新たな偏光角度の較正手法として利用できるためである。Ichiki et al. (2019)で報告されている”delta-map”法は有力な方法であったが、周波数帯の数が前景放射の推定パラメータ数によって制限されるという問題があった。わたしは、ベイズ統計の手法を利用することで、この制限を取り外し"extended delta-map"法を完成させた。これをシミュレーションによって検証することで前景放射を取り除くことができ、CMBのインフレーション理論のパラメータを精度よく推定できることを示し、論文として出版した。今後、この手法をこれまで開発してきた角度較正手法と組み合わせれば、より高精度な偏光角度の較正とインフレーション理論の検証の精度向上が期待できる。
その他の実績は、Snowmassの白書論文1本、光を発した時点でのCMBのEB相関の新たな知見についての論文が1本、CMBのEB相関測定への前景放射の影響についての論文が1本、角度較正とCMBのEB相関の測定について国際会議での招待講演が1回、extended delta-map法について国際会議発表1回と国内会議発表1回がある。

研究期間全体を通して、前景放射がある場合でも検出器の角度較正ができる新手法の開発ができた。コロナ禍の影響で当初の目的ではない別の望遠鏡の測定データにこの手法を適用したが、CMBの光に未知の物理事象の兆候を観測し、大きな科学的成果を得ることができた。また、前景放射モデルを取り入れた偏光角度の較正の開発や前景放射を取り除く手法を開発することで、前景放射の軽減による偏光角度の較正ができ、インフレーションの発見感度向上につなげることができた。
