Outline of Research at the Start

金星科学最大の謎のうちの一つである超高速東西風「スーパーローテーション」の生成メカニズムとして、金星雲層が太陽光で加熱されて励起される熱潮汐波に伴う角運動量の鉛直輸送が提唱されている。本研究では、あかつき電波掩蔽観測と金星大気大循環モデルを用いて、スーパーローテーション生成への熱潮汐波の寄与を観測と理論の両面からアプローチする。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

金星大気科学における最大の謎の一つが、自転速度の60倍の速さで吹いている超高速の東風「スーパーローテーション」である。そして、このスーパーローテーションの駆動メカニズムとして有力視されているのが、金星雲層が太陽光で加熱されることにより励起される熱潮汐波に伴う角運動量輸送である。熱潮汐波についての水平構造は昨今の光学機器観測によって分かってきてはいるものの、鉛直構造についての情報は殆どない。そのため、従来の理論研究結果の妥当性について調べることができていない。とりわけ、雲層から下に伝播する成分については観測例が全くない。
本研究では、気温の高度分布を高精度(温度測定精度~0.1K)・高分解能(鉛直分解能~1km)で取得可能なあかつき電波掩蔽観測データを解析することにより、金星低緯度における気温の地方時分布を導出し、そこから熱潮汐波の鉛直伝播する様子が見えるかどうか調べた。その結果、高度60-65kmを境にして、熱潮汐波の位相が変化して上下に伝播する様子が見られ、これは従来の理論研究と整合的な鉛直構造(振幅や位相の高度分布)が得られたことを意味する。このような熱潮汐波の上下伝播を観測的に捉えたのは、本研究が初めてである。また、線形化した熱力学方程式や連続方程式を利用して、電波掩蔽観測で得られた熱潮汐波の気温擾乱から、熱潮汐波に伴う運動量フラックスや加速・減速率を定量したところ、従来の理論研究と定量的に整合することがわかった。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

測定結果についての誤差の定量を行う。また、あかつきに搭載されている他の測定機器の観測結果と比較することで、熱潮汐波の3次元構造を明らかにする。また、電波掩蔽観測結果と従来の理論研究の結果をより詳しく比較し、熱潮汐波がスーパーローテーションにもたらす影響を観測と理論の両面から明らかにする。
