Outline of Research at the Start

単層カーボンナノチューブ(CNT)は高い熱伝導率を持つが、1層の原子層から成るため、原子層内への異原子の導入や、表面における異物質との接触により、その伝熱特性は大きく変化することが予想されている。一方で、そのようなヘテロ構造の制御合成や熱伝導率計測は技術的に困難であった。本研究では、同位体炭素原子を格子内に一定割合で混合した単層CNTや、単層CNT周囲に異種原子層を同心合成したヘテロナノチューブを合成し、その熱伝導特性を測定する。ナノ材料の構造と熱伝導特性に関する関係を解き明かし、機能化熱伝導材料開発への道筋を拓く。

Outline of Final Research Achievements

We synthesized a coaxial heterostructure consisting of single-walled carbon nanotubes (CNT) and boron nitride nanotubes (BNNT) and realized an increase in the thermal conductivity of the heterostructured thin films, which confirms the effectiveness of structure-designed nanomaterials for controlling physical properties. We also produced CNTs with isotope superlattice.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

本研究ではナノ材料の構造制御によりその熱伝導特性などの物理的性質を制御できることを実証した。特に、ナノチューブ物質としてはカーボンナノチューブや窒化ホウ素ナノチューブなど様々なものが知られるが、それらの特長を組み合わせることで、単一の材料では得られない機能を有する新材料としてヘテロ構造化ナノチューブを構築可能である。ヘテロ構造化ナノチューブの更なる構造制御により、機能化薄膜や電子素子などとしての応用の実現が期待される。
