Outline of Research at the Start

Outline of Final Research Achievements

In 2019, cancer gene panel testing became covered by insurance in Japan, but it is limited to 240 certified facilities. Given this situation, a survey was conducted to assess cancer treatment doctors' understanding of cancer genome medicine. The results showed that doctors at core and affiliated cancer genome hospitals had higher knowledge and usage experience compared to other doctors. The most common reason for not using the testing was "poor patient PS," with non-certified hospitals citing "inability to perform tests at their facility," "difficulty accessing testing facilities," and "lack of understanding" more frequently. At the time of the survey, cancer genome medicine was not widely adopted, highlighting the urgent need for more facilities, simplified procedures, network building, and personnel training.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements
