Outline of Research at the Start |
In 2020, we will secure ethical approval from Japan and the Philippines. We will collect data of the quantitative part in the urban communities. In 2021, we will continue the data collection in the rural communities. In 2022, we will do qualitative interviews in both urban and rural communities.
|
Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
We have completed a qualitative study on the formation and significance of spiritual health among the elderly population on Okikamuro Island, Yamaguchi, Japan. Additionally, data collection for a cross-sectional study on healthcare access and health-related quality of life among community-dwelling seniors in Pampanga, Philippines, has been finalized. Furthermore, another qualitative study on the usage of telepharmacy services among Filipino senior citizens has been conducted.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.
Reason
The qualitative study on Okikamuro Island, Yamaguchi Prefecture, progressed smoothly. Despite approaching 24 elderly residents, only 14 agreed to participate. The COVID-19 pandemic posed challenges to data collection, as we had to adhere to specific protocols. We surveyed 410 senior citizens in Pampanga, Philippines, about their healthcare access and health-related quality of life. Additionally, we conducted six focus groups to explore the use of telepharmacy among Filipino senior citizens.

Strategy for Future Research Activity |
We have finished the data collection and analysis. Now, we are preparing for dissemination of results through journal publication and presentation in international conferences.
