| Outline of Research at the Start |
手術後に生じる疲労・倦怠感（Postoperative Fatigue：POF）は術後の症状の一つであり、術後長期に渡って続く苦痛だが、様々な要因が複合的に関与する捉えにくい上、致命的な症状ではないことなどから、客観的評価が少なく、見過ごされてきた問題であった。従ってPOFを定量化し、術後ケアにてPOFを考慮する意義を明確にできれば、さらなるQOLに寄与できると考える。
本研究ではPOFが自律神経活動と密接に関係しているとの仮説の下、POFを心拍変動解析（Heart Rate Variability：HRV）を用いて定量化する方法を開発することが目的である。

| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
The purpose of this study is to quantify postoperative fatigue using heart rate variability analysis, which can quantify autonomic nervous activity, and to examine its significance as an index for evaluating quality of life.
As large-scale data collection has been difficult due to the impact of COVID-19, we conducted a small-scale heart rate variability analysis and tracked postoperative fatigue.
Heart rate variability data from sedated postoperative patients showed that care stimulates the autonomic nervous system.Furthermore, it was found that postoperative fatigue as a subjective symptom persists at least one month after surgery, suggesting that the presence or absence of frailty may have an influence.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
術後の疲労・倦怠感（Postoperative Fatigue：POF）は症状の存在は知られつつも、主観的な症状な上、複合的で命に関わらないなどの要因からあまり注目がされていなかった。心拍変動解析を活用して症状を定量化することで、一層の術後の生活の質の向上に寄与出来ると考える。自律神経活動が鎮静下でも反応があった結果からは、侵襲の大小が自律神経活動に影響があることが示唆される。一方で退院後も症状が存在することからは、相互の関連性だけでなく、解決すべき症状としての意義も一層高められたと考えられる。
