Outline of Research at the Start

データ分離問題は、機械学習における基本的な問題である。これまでは、統計的手法や、離散数学的手法を用いて、何らかの評価関数を最小にするものを求める方法が主であった。しかしデータ数が増えると、離散的方法は計算量が増えて困難になる。そこで連続的空間でその威力を発揮した偏微分方程式を用いる方法を導入したい。特に、単に評価関数の最小を求めるだけではなく、最小にどのような意味でどれくらい近いかを解明するため、非平衡非線形現象を記述する拡散方程式を用い、それによりデータ分離問題に新たな視点を与えたい。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

データ分離問題の鍵となる全変動流方程式に対しての研究を主に進めてきた。特に4階の全変動流方程式をユークリッド全空間で考えた場合の解の定義を確立した。また、データのクラスタリングへの潜在的応用力のある小林・ワレン・カーターモデルについては、その緩和過程を見られるスケールを見出した。
一方、輪郭線の変形に重要な役割を担っている平均曲率流方程式に対して、境界での角度を保存した問題についての変分型数値スキームの確立と、その収束性について考察した。また従来取り上げられていなかった曲面の境界を固定するディリクレ問題についても、その初期値問題の一意可解性を、等高面法を新たに確立することにより示せることを見出した。

Reason

本年はコロナ禍も少しずつ収まってきたが、安全上の理由で対面の研究集会の開催は避け、オンライン会合を積み重ねてきた。それにより当初に設定した成果をあげることができた。
応用数学分野で最大の国際会議である国際産業応用数学会議(ICIAM)は、2023年8月に早稲田大学(ハイブリッド)で開催された。その会合に出席し、またセッションを企画することができた。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

小林・ワレン・カーターエネルギーの鋭敏界面モデルへの特異極限問題の高次元版の最新成果や、勾配流の特異極限についての成果を取りまとめる。また、小林・ワレン・カーターエネルギーの特異極限として得られる全変動エネルギーの最小解の形状を調べていく。全体として自由境界問題の色彩が強いので、それについての国際会議を開催する。
