Outline of Research at the Start |
The purpose of this study is twofold: (1)to determine how English language learners verbally communicate emotions in social interactions, and (2) to investigate whether emotion expression is transferable from one’s native language to an acquired (foreign or second) language.
|
Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
Following the two presentations on preliminary results of the study, in the final year of the project, a lot of time was spent analyzing the data - recorded focus group discussions. Although follow-up interviews were in my initial plan, due to logistical reasons, I could not follow through with it.
At the moment, I am working on an article for an international journal and hope to get it published by the end of this year. The paper includes both the results of the collected data analysis, as well as an empirical discussion to how we decide on the selection of linguistic terms describing or evoking emotions in intercultural settings.
