Outline of Research at the Start

本研究では、仏国パリ南大学および独国ブルツブルグ大学の2拠点を中心に、密接な国際連携を通して、欧州の次世代放射光群を舞台とした多元的な先端分光解析を行う。この国際共同研究スキームの下、酸化物デバイスで発現する新奇な量子状態を明らかにする。具体的には、世界をリードする当研究室の強相関酸化物デバイス・ナノ構造作製技術と欧州における最先端放射光解析技術とを組み合わせる事で、現状のボトルネックを解消し、未だ分からないことの多い酸化物デバイス内の量子(電荷・スピン・軌道)状態を可視化する。これにより、先端計測に基づいた酸化物デバイス開発を行う。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本国際共同研究の目的は、海外の次世代高輝度放射光施設の先端解析技術と日本側の酸化物デバイス作製技術とを組み合わせ、酸化物デバイス・ナノ構造研究を国際共同研究の下に加速させることである。具体的には、国内の放射光施設では観測することの難しい、酸化物デバイス界面数nmの領域で発現する特異な量子(電荷・スピン・軌道)状態をそれぞれの自由度に分けて可視化し、その知見に基づいた機能設計を行う。これにより、現状のボトルネックを解消し、明確な設計指針の元に酸化物デバイス開発を進める。さらに、本研究を通した欧州の放射光施設での研究交流を通じて、次世代光源である東北放射光への最先端放射光解析技術の導入を図る。
本年度は、ようやく新型コロナ禍による渡航制限がほぼ解除されたこともあり、パリ南大のグループとの下記に示す国際共同研究を遂行した。
1)SOLEIL放射光施設のカシオペアビームラインを用いて、パリ南大のグループと共同でVO2薄膜の偏光依存ARPES測定を行った。その結果、V-V二量化に伴った電子状態変化を観測することに成功した。
2)パリ南大のグループが来日し、KEK-PFのMUSASHIビームラインを用いて、酸素欠損VO2薄膜の金属絶縁体に関する研究を行った。
上記の国際共同実験において、対面で参加する人数を制限するため、一部のメンバーはこれまでに構築したリモート実験環境を駆使して参画した。さらに、オンライン会議を積極的に用いて、パリ南大学のグループと今後の研究計画に関する入念な打ち合わせを継続している。

3: Progress in research has been slightly delayed.

Reason

今年度から新型コロナウイルス感染症による渡航制限、および共同研究先の研究活動制限が解除され、一部であるがようやく対面での国際共同研究が日仏両方で実施できた。これまで、パリ南大学およびブルツブルグ大学の研究者とはオンラインツールで打ち合わせ、およびそれぞれの機関・放射光施設に整備したネットワークによる遠隔実験により、国際共同研究自体をすすめてきたものの、実際の国際共同実験はやや遅れているのが現状である。特に、リモートでは実施困難な、スピン・軌道分解ARPES測定技術の開発、ナノARPES装置でのオペラント測定化のための電圧印加機構の設計・開発、およびオペラント測定用試料ホルダーへの酸化物デバイス構造の組み込みなどは、依然打ち合わせの段階である。しかしながら、十分に実験計画を練ってあり、今後は遅れを取り戻して研究遂行が出来る体制が構築されている。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

新型コロナウイルス感染症による渡航制限がほぼ解除されたため、これまでの研究計画を遂行していく。具体的には、独国ブルツブルグ大学での試料作製、および仏国パリ南大学のグループとのSOLEIL放射光施設を用いたナノARPES測定を行う。ナノARPES装置におけるオペラント測定化のための電圧印加機構については、2024年度の6月から9月の間にパリ南大学のAndres Santander-Syro教授を東北大学の客員教授として招聘予定であり、滞在中に設計・開発を進める予定である。
また、多くのメンバーが参画できるようにこれまで本研究で構築してきたリモート実験環境を有効に活かしつつ、欧州の放射光施設における国際共同研究を強力に推し進めていく。
