Research Abstract |
This project is an attempt to provide researchers with fundamental documents on colonial laws in Japanese Imperial Period to depict influence of Japanese Law on modern legal system in East Asia and to study differences of socio-historical backgrounds among countries and inter-comparison of each system, using comparative framework between Imperial Japan and her colonies based on archives of "Okamatsu Santaro Monjo Documents" and so on. Web catalogues of "Chigusa Tatsuo Monjo Documents" (1282 items) and "Miyauchi Kishi Monjo Documents" (436 items) donated to Waseda University Library are open to public. A tentative archival catalogue of "Judicial Records of Taichung District Court in Colonial Times" (40,033 cases of 326 volumes) in Academy for the Judiciary in Taiwan has been created. In this process, 6 study sessions on "The Empire and the Colonial Legal System" and 1 International Symposium on the same topic were held.
