Research Abstract |
To identify viral genomic factors for severe dengue virus infections, we conducted field surveys in Asia and Africa. A number of severe dengue cases were confirmed among adult patients with primary infections, suggesting additional mechanism of severity on top of the antibody-dependent infection theory. Viral quasispecies were analyzed and showed different target cell tropism even with a single amino acid alternation on E-protein.
