Research Abstract |
Mechanisms regulating interleukin-4 (IL-4) production in murine basophils were studied. Basophils, when resting, produce IL-4 in response to IL-3 but not F_RI crosslinkage, whereas activated basophils produce the cytokine upon FcεRI crosslinkage but not IL-3 stimulation. The transcriptional repressor Bcl-6 and the suppressive cell surface molecule PIR-B were identified to negatively regulate F_RI signals in resting basophils and IL-3 signals in activated basophils, respectively.
