Research Abstract |
This study was an attempt to analyse Henry Fielding's political pamphlets and leaders of his own newspapers comprehensively in terms of the press history and to illuminate some aspects of the formation of political culture in eighteenth-century Britain. Focusing on the political argument during the Jacobite Rising of 1745, I demonstrated how he developed the Whig ideas about the political constitution and religion and how the press treated the Jacobite cause.
