Research Abstract |
This research made it clear that Selayarese allows 4 chain patterns in a wh-clause with one embedding making use of possible combinations of movement and resumption. This is parallel to the situation in Irish, which allows 6 chain patterns in a wh-clause with one embedding making use of possible combinations of movement and resumption. Therefore, this research proved that chain formation in human language can make free use of movement and resumption in principle. Furthermore, this research also made it clear that in Spanish, there is no correlation between subject-predicate inversion and wh-movement, so that wh-movement in Spanish has turned out not to constitute evidence for visible successive cyclicity.
