Research Abstract |
This study aimed to look at how tourism developed in modern Japan via an analysis of various media sources including newspapers, tourist guidebooks, leaflets, bird's-eye view images, advertisements, photographs and more. A number of the bird's-eye view images studied featured events symbolizing modernization with descriptions that reflected how the areas depicted had become tourist sites. The study revealed the research value of heretofore underutilized media sources.
