Research Abstract |
Studies were conducted to confirm the efficacy of group cognitive behavior therapy forpathological/problem gambling in Japan, especially among pachinko (pinball-, slot-machinelike games) addicted adults. Thirty-three adults with serious gambling problem wereparticipated in a 5-session group therapy. Five (15.2%) participants were dropped out fromtherapy session or before 6-month followup. Every participant completed the therapy and6-month followup showed decreasing the amount time and money associated withgambling. Thirteen (39.4%) participants succeeded in perfect quitting at the 6 monthsfollowup. Seven participants reported more than 12-month cessation. These results werealmost similar to those obtained from a 5-session individual intervention for eightparticipants.
