Research Abstract |
Mind-Body theories in New Education derive, as has often been pointed out, from philosophy of life and practices of life reform movement : body as expression of soul. However, they also descend from contemporary medical thinking. It is often said that the children from disadvantaged families were left without benefit of New Education, while the children of well-to-do middle-class families, who attended private schools founded by the supporters of "child-centered education", benefited from New Education. But there were several followers of the New Education Movement who insisted that children from disadvantaged families needed to benefit as well.
