Research Abstract |
In plants, it has not been known whether mRNAs with stalled ribosomes are subject to mRNA surveillance. In this study, using Arabidopsis upstream open reading frames, we found that ribosome stalling caused by the uORF-encoded peptides promotes mRNA degradation by the nonsense-mediated mRNA decay pathway in Arabidopsis
