Research Abstract |
The mechanism of attenuation of influenza A virus after treatment with a sphydrofuran derivative,(1R, 2R)-1-(5'-methylfur-3'-yl) propan-1, 2, 3-triol(MFPT) isolated from Streptomyces sp., was examined. The results were as follows : 1) MFPT-resistant viruses showed less pathogenicity in mice. 2) MFPTr virus clones showed lower growth in vitro. 3) Direct sequencing revealed a novel mutation in NS1 protein. 4) We tried and succeeded chemical synthesis of the compound.
