Research Abstract |
T-type voltage-gated Ca^<2+> channels have unique electrophysiological properties, which have been assumed to be suitable for physiological action such as controlling the proliferation of various tumor cells. A study of T-type voltage-gated Ca^<2+> channels on tumor development was carried on MCF-7(Human breast adenocarcinoma) cells. Cav3.1, an isoform of T-type channels, inhibited cell proliferation and induced apoptosis, while a different isoform, Cav3.2, had no effect. These suggest that the Cav3.1 channel may act as a tumor suppressor.
