Research Abstract

Immunohistochemical analysis using surgical specimens of esophageal cancer after chemotherapy and mouse model analysis showed that bone. marrow derived cells, especially macrophages, migrated to tumor stroma after cisplatin-based chemotherapy. Infiltration of CD11b(+) cells, c-kit(+) cells and M2 macrophage to tumor stroma correlated inversely with response to chemotherapy. Taken together, these results suggest that recruitment of bone-marrow derived cells is associated with chemoresistance in esophageal cancer.
