Research Abstract |
Our study shows the expression of COX-2 in the cerebral aneurysm(CA) wall and suggests that this protein is involved in CA pathogenesis. Chronic inflammation due to COX-2 expression is thought to be the main cause of CA rupture, and our study suggests the possibility for medically treating unruptured CAs with a COX-2 inhibitor. In future, the administration of specific prostanoids receptor inhibitors could become the first-choice therapy for patients with unruptured CAs.
