Research Abstract

Nasal deformity caused by muscle interruption is a serious problem for cleft lip and/or palate patients. Presurgical nasoalveolar molding(PNAM) was introduced to correct nasal structure before lip plasty. We had applied PNAM technique with Hotz appliance and nasal stent. In this study, we had tried to evaluate the efficacy of PNAM.
Reductions of columella inclination, increase of columella length and nostril height were observed after PNAM treatment. A favorable reshaping of nose was achieved by PNAM. These changes lead to improved nasal symmetry for CLP patients.
